Hello
Welcome to another amazing course, brought to you by OnVoice Academy. We hope you enjoy!
Overview
Here’s another great tool to help you develop your speech work and understand accent training. Elicitation passages are a great instrument to help you identify, recognise and locate the patterns, characteristics and features of spoken language. They’re ideal for all kinds of articulation or pronunciation practice and development because they illuminate all of the combinations of lexical and grammatical devices.
The term ELICITATION could be described as the process of extracting information. And so, an elicitation passage used for speech and voice work highlights information about the pronunciation, articulation and expressive characteristics of a person’s speech patterns, including their use on pitch, pace and stress. With all of this information we are able to grasp a much clearer and detailed understanding of a person’s vocal display or profile.
As actors and professional voice users, the information we extract from an elicitation passage can help us to develop more detailed vocal performances that help us present and create authentic characterisation.
Aims & Objectives
- To introduce you to Elicitation Passages and how they support accent and speech work.
- To help you understand what an elicitation passage is.
- To develop your understanding of how to effectively use an elicitation passage.
- To bring your awareness to your own voice and its unique characteristics and features.
- To develop your accent, speech and articulation skills.
There are many elicitation passages widely and readily available. Linguists use them to better understand and highlight patterns and expressions of speech, and speech therapists use elicitation passages to identify the challenges individuals might be facing in their verbal communication. As actors and voice professionals we use them to develop, adopt, and acquire.
